Welcome to the website of the Badenoch and Strathspey Branch of the Scottish National Party.

Badenoch and Strathspey is a beautiful land, with so much of the finest landscape that Scotland has to offer that it now forms the lion's share of Scotland's second National Park. Naturally, we want to keep it that way - held in trust for generations to come - but not simply preserved in some kind of time warp. Badenoch and Strathpsey is also a land for people to live and work in, to prosper and grow. How the land is held in trust, and who holds it, is at least as important as what is done with it. Badenoch and Strathspey has become what it is today through those who have lived and worked in the area over generations. Their voice needs to be heard; their hopes, needs and aspirations respected - ecology balanced with economy - wild land in harmony with people.
February 19th SNP CHOOSES DAVE FALLOWS FOR HIGHLAND COUNCIL ELECTIONS
The Badenoch and Strathspey branch of the Scottish National Party have unanimously endorsed the nomination of Newtonmore Community Council Chairman Dave Fallows as their prospective candidate for the Highland Council election on May 3rd. Speaking after the meeting Dave Fallows said “I am both proud and pleased to have been chosen to represent the SNP in these elections. Along with other SNP candidates throughout the Highlands, we all look forward to the opportunity to persuade the people of the Highlands that SNP values of fairness, openness and opportunity for all who call Scotland their home and their Nation will stand also for better local government. Those of us who are privileged enough to earn the electorate’s trust and confidence will each do all that we can to defend and improve public services – from care homes and home care to the bobby on the beat and from support for community enterprise to affordable housing for our young families. I hope very much to be a part of that.”
The meeting also heard that branch secretary Karen Lawrie had reluctantly been forced to stand down through ongoing family commitments and Dave Fallows also agreed to step into the breach and return as branch secretary – at least until after the elections.

The meeting went on to discuss the issue of the proposed super pylon interconnect from Beauly to Denny and renewable energy generally. All agreed that, whilst totally supporting the principles of renewable energy, they would far prefer to see offshore windfarms and under-sea distribution networks for large-scale developments, preferring small scale community projects on-shore. The members did not feel that a massive interconnect marching across the backbone of the Highlands was the right way to go.

In spring 2007, the people of Badenoch and Strathspey have no less than three separate lots of elections to contend with - for Highland Council, and the Scottish Parliament, in May, and for the new Cairngorms National Park Authority, in March.

Whenever elections come round, there are worries that people may feel something of election 'overkill', or that elections don't matter, because nothing ever changes - we're here to say that they do matter; that your voice should be heard; and that SNP policies will be good for all of us.

We want you to turn out and vote, whenever and wherever you can, but let's make no bones about it - we want you to vote for SNP candidates first and foremost - not because we say so - but because you believe that what we are saying makes sense.

We'd be even happier if you were so convinced that you felt you wanted to join us as a member ....

So take a few moments to explore these pages and see if you agree with us that the way forward to a really new and exciting Scotland is the Scottish National Party.
